Dark Lover #1 by J.R. Ward

Dark Lover [Black Dagger Brotherhood #1]
By J.R. Ward

Book order:
1.  Dark Lover
2.  Lover Eternal
3.  Lover Awakened
4.  Lover Revealed
5.  Lover Unbound
6.  Lover Enshrined
7.  Lover Avenged
8.  Lover Mine
9.  Lover Unleashed

From Goodreads:
In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood.

The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.

Alexia’s Review:
I’ve had this series on my TBR list forever but just never got around to getting the books, that being said, I can’t believe I have waited this long to start with the Black Dagger Brotherhood series *gasps* - I know right? Ridiculous!!

J.R Ward is a great writer with an amazing way of getting the whole story across to the reader. There isn’t just 2 main characters in this book, although it focuses on those 2 specific characters more than the rest, but you also get a whole background story on the other characters – the good guys and the bad guys.

Dark Lover is the story of Beth and Wrath. I absolutely adore Wrath and Beth and love how they get together, their journey of finding one another takes you on a wild adventure. In this book you discover a whole new world of vampires and lessers.

I felt as if my emotions were on a rollercoaster ride while reading this extraordinary book, there were times where I laughed so hard at some of the phrases used by the brothers in the Brotherhood and times where I had a lump in my throat. Dark Lover has a delicious mix of humour, romance (and when I say romance – I mean ro-freaking-mance), sorrow and a lot of action (action as in ‘up in your face explosive’).

The brothers in the Brotherhood are … hmmm… HAWT! (yeah, you know me, always have to comment on the alpha males *giggles*) Oh my goodness – they can kidnap me anytime they want.

This weeks Follow Friday question?
If you could have dinner with your favorite book character, who would you eat with and what would you serve?

Alexia’s Answer:
Hmm… I have so many fav book characters! Ok, I’ll have to go with Malkom Slaine. He is a demon / vampire that just screams danger – totally wild! He has a balanced diet of human food and blood, so I’ll make some Mac & Cheese (basically the only thing I can make – sad right?) and serve my wrist as dessert.
Just look at this cover – that body! *wipes drool*

Bound by Blood by P.A. Lupton

Bound by Blood [The Garner Witch #1]
By P.A. Lupton

From Goodreads:
FBI agent and psychic, Brianna Reece, descends from an ancient and powerful bloodline of witches, only she doesn’t know it. But now that legacy has come back to bite her—literally. In the shadows of night in Denver Colorado, a serial killer is hunting women, and FBI agent Brianna Reece is hunting the killer. Unlike any case she’s worked before, Brianna can’t ignore the prickling at the back of her neck when she glimpses the resemblance she shares with the victims. The investigation begins to touch even closer to home when it is revealed that all of the victims were also psychic.

Complicating matters further, Brianna is captivated by the FBI’s prime suspect Nathan Donovan. Though she senses he is hiding something from her, the attraction she feels for him is compelling, and unlike anything she’s ever experienced. Through a chance twist of fate, Nathan learns of Brianna’s ancestry and is forced to divulge secrets to Brianna that will change her life forever. When she learns that the killer is an evil vampire, and he’s now set his sights on her, Nathan alone holds the key to awakening her dormant powers. Now he must race to teach her how to control her emergent gifts before she becomes the next victim.

Alexia’s Review:
I freaking love this book!! The author, Penny-Ann Lupton got me hooked on the first page till the very end. I couldn’t put it down – I was even sneakily reading at work when I had a chance (don’t blame me if I get fired, not my fault)! You know it’s a great read when you start getting anxious when you realize there are only a few pages left – I started reading slower in hopes that I could read longer *sighs*.

The characters are fabulous. Brianna (love that name) is a powerful woman with a hunger for life. The way she handles herself in dangerous situations is absolutely amazing. I enjoyed how Brianna and Todd Morrison became such good friends.

Mr Nathan Donovan… *fans myself* … oh my… That man is a hotness monster of note!! When I think of Nathan I can’t even put words into sentences – seriously! I’m super glad that Nathan and Brianna got together and that they have so much chemistry (I’ll be honest – I’ll say I’m glad but really I’m actually jealous).

Penny-Ann Lupton is definitely an author I’ll be following from now on – no questions asked! I enjoyed her writing style – this book had super hot (melt your bones) romance, humour and cool action scenes. This book is a definite MUST read to all that love paranormal romance. I can’t wait for the next installment of The Garner Witch series!!

Her Dark Destiny #1 By Dave Ferraro

Her Dark Destiny [Hunters of the Dark #1]
By Dave Ferraro

From Goodreads:
Teenager Shanna Hunt has been hunting demons since her parents were murdered by them. She's used to doing things alone, her own way, but one fateful night throws her into the company of a team of hunters, each specializing in a particular kind of monster: vampires, werewolves, witches, shape-shifters... This newly-formed team should be an unstoppable force for whatever is out there picking off individual hunters across the globe, but their first battle together against the monsters of the night could be their last.

Alexia’s Review:
I really enjoyed reading this book. The story line is great – I was captivated from the get go! I love all the kick-ass chicks. Every single one of the characters has such outrages personalities – freaking awesome. They are unpredictable and keep you on your toes.

This is the type of book that ‘does’ it for me – it is action packed (and yes… the girls did most of the ‘in your face’ knock outs) and has romance as well as humour!

I just have to add that I’m totally swooning over Damien *sigh* although I don’t know much about him but I am anxious to see how his role plays out in Shanna’s life.

I enjoyed Dave Ferraro’s writing style, that being said, Hunters of the Dark is definitely a series I’ll be following! Also have to add… What is up with the sneak peek of the second book in the Hunters of the Dark Series, Night Cries – seriously?! Cliff hanger of note if you ask me… I NEED to know what is about to go down *pouts*. All in all… it was a great read and I look forward to the rest of the series.

Summer's Journey: Volume 2 By Summer Daniels

Summer’s Journey: Volume 2 – Alphabetical Assignation
By Summer Daniels

From Goodreads:
The second volume of this continuing True Romance / Erotica series follows Summer's journey as we find out what happens after that little black dress hit the hotel room floor in Volume One.

“Your intelligence and literary verve have lent themselves to an idea for how to expand your sexual horizons while giving us both a great deal of pleasure. In that vein I will say that you have arrived here tonight for what I will call an alphabetical assignation. Over the next year, if you choose to continue on our journey together, you and I will explore the sexual alphabet together."

Come with me on my journey of sexual self-discovery. See through my eyes and feel through my touch.

Approximately 5,400 words – this second volume is much more explicit than Volume One and meant for mature audiences only.

Alexia’s Review:
Firstly I’d just like to say that I love the cover of this book. Volume 1 of Summer’s Journey gives the reader a background on the two characters, Volume 2 is the start of their journey together. I seriously enjoyed this book. Summer has so much courage, a very strong and sassy character. Mark is unbelievably thoughtful and appreciative, it’s almost like he worships Summer’s body and her courage to trust him in such a personal way. Mark and Summer are two amazing characters and they really compliment each other.

Elemental: The First By Alexandra May

Elemental: The First
By Alexandra May

From Goodreads:
ROSE Frost receives a bracelet on her sixteenth birthday, a parting gift from her mother who claims it is a family heirloom. From that night Rose starts having vivid dreams and strange visions.

DAYS after, her family separate and Rose moves into her grandmother's house. Her dreams start to involve a woman called Halíka Dacomé. Is she a legend or a figment of her imagination?

DANGER strikes one night. Rose is first on the scene after she smells burning and discovers a car that has been purposely set on fire. She is convinced that the boy in her latest vision is inside the car. The mysterious Aiden Deverill pulls Rose to safety, but not before a window explodes and a ball of fire burns them both. She uses her secret healing gift to heal the scars and to all appearances remains unscathed.
But Aiden is free from burns too and Rose doesn't know why.
She is drawn to his alluring smile, his gorgeous dark looks and hypnotising blue eyes, but as they get closer her friends warn her off claiming that he's bad news.

Rose tries to find the truth about Halika Dacomé and more about why Aiden is so disliked, but she soon gets drawn into helping her friends solve the mystery behind the missing Warminster townsfolk. The latest missing person is her new friend Jez's father.

During the investigation she meets Morgan, a family friend of Daisy's who lives in the cottage at the bottom of Daisy's garden. He's kind, funny and clearly devoted to her, but Rose finds out that his hatred towards Aiden and his grandfather, Ben Deverill, lies rooted in a shocking event that happened years before involving both families.

For Rose, her new life is beginning but she soon realises that people are not always what they seem, and finds it difficult to determine who to trust.

What she always believed to be a happy family and a friendly town soon turns on its head when she discovers that her family secret, Aiden Deverill and the truth behind Halíka Dacomé is at the heart of the whole conspiracy.

Alexia’s Review:
This is a great read. It has a bit of romance, action and mystery. Rose Frost is a kick ass chick, hard core to the max! She has such a strong personality and great control on her emotions which I admire. I’m not sure how I feel about Aiden and Morgan – so much mystery and lies. Aiden and Morgan are both swoon worthy characters!! The story line is amazing, I loved the mystery aspect of it. I was so disappointed when I finished, I didn’t want the book to end. I will most definitely be following this series.

Summer's Journey: Volume 1 By Summer Daniels

Summer’s Journey: Volume 1 – Losing Control
By: Summer Daniels

From Goodreads:
Fortyish, newly divorced, searching and longing for something different. Something fulfilling and exciting, somewhere far outside my ordinary comfort zone.

Come with me on my journey of discovery. Explore with me. Touch, taste and feel with me.

Lots more to come following my introduction to you in this first volume of a multi-part True Romance / Erotica series.

“Perhaps I was being picky, but I really didn’t think being able to spell orgasm without being spotted a vowel was asking too much.”

Approximately 6,000 words – this first volume is somewhere around 90% background story, and 10% erotic.

Future volumes will be more explicit as I expand my horizons and detail my journey of sexual self-discovery.

Alexia’s Review:
Volume 1 basically gives you the background on Summer and Mark – how they met and how they coped with their divorces. Mark is a swoon worthy character *sighs* and Summer is a woman that knows what she wants and won’t settle for less - *pumps fist* “you go girl”. I really enjoyed the author’s, Summer Daniels writing style, she interacts with the reader and I really appreciate that. I can’t wait to read Volume 2 – from what I’ve heard it’s going to be steamy… so ladies get ready *winks*

Alexia’s Review:
Wow… just wow! What an amazing story – Mandy and Justin kept me hooked till the very end! There were a few twists and at some parts I had to hold back my tears, I went on a rollercoaster of emotions following Mandy’s journey and Justin’s troubles. I have to admit that my glasses steamed up a bit with the romance aspect *winks* I loved the epilogue!! Hands down I am definitely recommending this book to all!

Temp: An Accidental Fairytale by A.E. Mayer

Temp: An Accidental Fairytale
By A.E. Mayer

From Goodreads:
You might imagine the Collision that catapulted magical creatures to Earth would make every moment miraculous. But jobs were just as dull, and life could be just as boring. Traffic still stunk, only now with dragon Flyways above highways, the stink was worse than ever.

Jackson Bee Belle Elders (Bee for short) is a promising Magical Sciences major who ends up smack in the middle of the Southern home town she tried to escape. Her lofty dreams of adventure only land her under fluorescent lights as she turfs creatures to temp jobs for Beveled Star Magical Staffing (B.S. for short).

But everything changes when the cautious temp meets a friend who will dramatically alter her holiday weekend and her life. Nevermind that the friend is a wolf working for a despicable djinn who might use him to destroy the planet and everyone in it. Nevermind that the wolf can talk, but no human except Bee can hear him. Bee has a lot of secrets—some she knows about, and some she doesn’t.

Fizzing with wit and adventure, Temp is a tale for anyone who has ever fantasized about a more magical life.

Alexia’s Review:
How to begin? A.E. Mayer is a fabulous writer – the ‘world’ that she has created in the story is absolutely amazing. There are a number of supernatural creatures that you encounter in this book that are so freaking interesting. The way that A.E. Mayer describes the creatures and surroundings is awe inspiring. Bee has decided she has had enough of playing it safe and dealing with her wretched employer so she goes on an amazing adventure, where she discovers her true self – Bee handles all difficult situations with such ease and bravado. Bee is a kick ass chick!!

Young Adult: British English (BrE)

Alexia’s Review:
Wow... where to begin - this book played on every emotion! There were times when I was laughing and times when I was crying. Demon Girl has a bit of everything - romance, action and humor. Yet another great read from Leia! This novella is a bit different from her other two books, Destiny Divided and Destiny United, it has ‘clench your thighs’ romance scenes – with a little bondage and one hot alpha wolf. *sigh* The female lead character is absolutely fabulous, she is stubborn, outspoken, witty and really gets the alpha’s blood boiling. Together they make an unstoppable couple.

Alexandra's Legacy by N.J. Walters

Alexandra's Legacy [Legacy #1]
By N.J. Walters

From Goodreads:
The truth will set her free…or get her killed.

Alexandra Riley’s day starts out like any other in her normal, predictable world. Then a tall, dark stranger bursts into her father’s garage and shatters the illusion. In one shocking moment, she discovers why she’s been feeling hot, restless—she’s the half-breed daughter of a legendary werewolf and is a much-sought-after prize.

Joshua Striker, enforcer in charge of protecting the alphas of the Wolf Creek pack, has come to take Alex home. Nothing more, nothing less. From the first moment he sees her, she becomes the one thing he can’t afford—a distraction from his duty. A weakness he doesn’t want—but can’t resist needing.

If only keeping her safe was as simple as fending off males on the hunt for a mate. Through city streets to the mountains of North Carolina, Alex and Joshua have to evade those who don’t want their pure bloodlines tainted with human DNA, as well as bounty hunters who think the only good werewolf is a dead one.

What Joshua and Alex can’t outrun is the passion that flares between them—or the choice Alex must eventually face. Whether to claim her inner wolf, or forfeit her chance to claim Joshua as her own.

Alexia’s Review:

An EPIC story line! I absolutely loved it! I was hooked from page one. Just the right amount of humour, romance and action. I can't wait to start the next book in this series. N.J. Walters is an amazing writer!

Me, Myself & I...

So… as my first post I thought I’d tell you guys a bit about me :)

I am a 24 year old who is addicted to reading! I ‘switch-off’ while reading – the world can go by and I won’t even know about it. True story! I am a straight forward in your face kind of gal and most of the times I speak before thinking – not cool, but what can you do? *grins*

An animal lover of note! At the moment I have a very talkative and sometimes super annoying little bird, named Soco (as in Southern Comfort – weird, I know) and two miniature poodles, named Tammi & Sandi. I am most definitely one of those folks who speak to their pets in a high pitched voice – and to my complete irritation, Soco has picked up on the high pitched, bang your head on desk talking (isn’t that fabulous – sarcasm much?)

Any who… I work as a Personal Assistant / Secretary during the day. A great way for me to unwind after a long days work, is reading a good book with a glass of wine.

A bad trait: I drive like a bat out of hell. Most people don’t find it very amusing driving with me – I’m a ‘get out of my way or I’ll drive over you’ driver. No jokes.

I am a complete daddy’s girl – just flash the dimples and my pops is wrapped around my finger. My mom sees straight through the “daddy you know how much I love right?” façade. My mother is a force of nature! She is absolutely awesome and one of my best friends.

So… after that tit bit, I want to talk about my blog, Alexia’s chronicles. This is purely a book blog, I’ll mostly be talking about books that I have read or am reading and my fav authors. My reviews are very basic and super honest, in the sense that I don’t write a page long review. For more information you can peruse my Review Policy page.

Hope ya’ll have a great day and happy reading.
Much love xx
