Fairy Fun by Anita Philmar

Fairy Fun
By Anita Philmar

From Goodreads:
Dedrick Forester, Prince of Endole, is fast approaching the end of his fairy cycle, which means losing his ability to fly, transforming into a wood gnome, and having to choose a mate. Until then he just wants to have fun...and lots of sex.

King Rosewood of Evermore is determined to see his daughter wed, but Chloe loves the freedom of fairy flight too much to settle down as a frumpy old wood gnome. She escapes and spreads her wings to reach new heights...like air sex with a stranger.

Combine her passion with Dedrick’s and sparks light up the sky. Both discover pleasure beyond their wildest fantasies. But neither is prepared for the emotional connection. Now Dedrick must convince Chloe that losing her wings doesn't mean there aren't other ways to fly?

Alexia’s Review:
Fairy Fun is a reading snack – there is no major storyline to follow, it’s quick and easy. This book has a lot of raunchy sex scenes with a fun twist to it.

Dedrick is a super hot fairy that enjoys a lot of sex. He is in two minds about finding a mate – he enjoys his freedom and the one night stands but at the same time he needs to settle down… he then meets Chloe who alters his perception of being in a relationship.

Chloe is a fun loving fairy that loves her freedom and flying. She doesn’t want to get married and lose her wings but her parents are pushing her to choose a mate. Chloe and Dedrick have a little fun for an evening and she leaves it at that… however Dedrick has different plans for her, he wants to keep her by his side and convince her that marriage to him won’t be so bad.

These two characters have a short and sweet courtship and all is well in the world. I enjoyed Anita Philmar’s writing style but feel that this particular book could have had a stronger story line.
 Adequately tantalizing

Blood Warrior by H.D. Gordon

Blood Warrior [The Alexa Montgomery Saga #1]
By H.D Gordon

From  Goodreads:
When her home is attacked by murderous vampires, 17-year-old Alexa is forced to leave her mother for dead in order to save her sister. She soon learns that she is the last known member of an elite race of supernatural Warriors, and is thrust into a world full of vampires and werewolves who all seem to regard her as some sort of savior. Meanwhile, Alexa battles a monster within herself that seeks to gain control; a monster that seeks blood.

The hidden city she finds herself in appears perfect, but Alexa's instincts tell her that all is not right within its walls. When she is asked to attend a school of fighters, whose exams consist of gladiator-style competitions, she must decide who she can trust among the smiling faces. And, when she meets Kayden, a vampire she feels undeniably drawn to, she must decide if she can trust herself.

Alexia’s Review:
This book is freaking EPIC! I honestly have no words - I finished Blood Warrior a few days ago, and I’ve been struggling to put my thoughts and feelings into words. I did not want this book to end - EVER!

Alexa is my hero. I take my hat off to her for pulling through and being so strong for herself and her sister during an extremely difficult and traumatic time in their lives. Alexa is an “I am Woman, hear me roar” kind of chick, that kicks ass and takes names. She totally rocked my world with her adventures and self discovery. She dominated big time!

Kayden (AKA hotness monster dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with all things unbelievably sexy and tantalizing!)… he has a mysterious and dark vibe going on, which totally does it for me. The chemistry between Kayden and Alexa is awesome and mouth watering.

Jackson is so cute. I have to admit that the whole ‘darling’ pet name irritated me, but that’s just me – you know, I have a name… use it. He is so sweet and supportive towards Alexa and encourages her decisions.

H.D. Gordon… where have you been all my life? I seriously can’t wait for the next installment in this saga. This is most definitely an author and series I’ll be following!

Survival by A.M. Hargrove

Survival [The Guardians of Vesturon Series #1]
By A.M. Hargrove

From Goodreads:
Survival (Book 1 of the Guardians of Vesturon), a YA paranormal romance

"Maybe I was caught between the two worlds. I was having serious trouble distinguishing fantasy from reality."

While on a backpacking trip in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, nineteen-year-old Maddie Pearce finds her world has been thrown into a vortex and is madly spinning toward the impossible. Abducted by a mad psychopath, Maddie narrowly escapes with her life. But that is only the beginning. Her mysterious rescuer introduces her to a world that Maddie has difficulty accepting as reality. Will this strikingly gorgeous stranger be the key to her future or will she return to her mundane world, scarred from her experience? Follow Maddie as she is forced to make difficult decisions that carry her to mysterious places only to find that perhaps it was all for nothing.

Alexia’s Review:
I have to admit I’ve never liked reading novels about aliens, the whole three eyes, big heads and green bodies theme just never worked for me, but when the alien looks and acts human it’s a different story. Survival is a very interesting read and different to what I usually read, which was a nice change in pace.

Madeline, or rather, Maddie was dealt a heavy blow at a very young age, then a few years later another tragedy strikes. The reader goes through all those emotions with Maddie as well as on the journey of recovery and discovery. Maddie is a born and bred fighter – such an amazing zest for life. She loves adventures and the outdoors. Maddie strongly believes she is a bad luck charm… she has so many mishaps – I caught myself giggling hysterically at some of the ‘accidents’ that involve her.

The male lead character is Rayn… he finds Maddie when she is in a very bad predicament and is instantly attracted to her. They form a bond that is unbreakable. Together they are an unstoppable force and fight for their relationship. They compliment each other so perfectly.

All in all, Survival is a good read and I enjoyed the different spin on the aliens theme. This book ends on a monster of a cliffhanger with Maddie’s life hanging on the line…

Bridger by Megan Curd

Bridger
By Megan Curd

From Goodreads:
Ashlyn McVean doesn't believe in fairy tales. That is, until Ashlyn is thrown into the crosshairs of grudges her grandmother created long ago. After finding out she is one of two people able to cross between faerie realms, Ashlyn is faced with trying to understand her abilities, along with navigating a new relationship with her boyfriend, Liam. As if being on a centuries old hit list and dealing with crazed pixies isn't enough, her new abilities mean trouble for Liam. Knowing her new life puts everyone she loves in danger, Ashlyn must decide what's most important in her life between friends, family, love, and ultimately, realms.

Alexia’s Review:
Let me start off by saying - I’m not usually that ‘into’ fairy / faery books, but this book converted me! Megan Curd put a different twist to the whole faery theme. I had fun reading this book.

Ashlyn went through a major tragedy in the beginning of the book and to be honest I thought it was weird to start a book with such an intense scene, but it paid off. She was devastated and dealt with the outcome as best she could, which she did very admirably. She gets thrown into this ‘new’ world of Irish folklore that turns out to be true. She handles each situation very well after a rocky start. Her best friend turns out to be a big B-with-an-itch, but Ash prevails. She turns to her new found family and together they kick ass. Ashlyn has about 3 guys wanting her – Liam, Reese & Antony.

Liam is Ashlyn’s hot-tamale. Oooh… if I were a little younger I would so jump on that boat! He is dark, handsome and mysterious – who doesn’t like that? Liam and Ash have an instant connection *cue fireworks and fluttering butterflies*. He is a great Protector and Ashlyn is a very lucky lady.

Reese is one of Ash’s best friends but he has always had a crush on her. He is always there to pick her up when she’s feeling down. Reese is a great friend but Liam has left his mark on Ashlyn pretty well.

Antony… hmmm… I’m so curious about him. He has this mysterious / uninterested vibe going. He seems to want Ashlyn and I’m excited to see how these two characters interact with each other hopefully in the sequel, Traitor.

Overall this was a great read and I really enjoyed Megan Curd’s writing style. Definitely an author I’ll be following in the future.

Destiny Unchained By Leia Shaw

Destiny Unchained [Shadows of Destiny #3]
By Leia Shaw

Book Order:
Destiny Divided
Destiny United
For the Love of Harmony (novella)
Destiny Unchained

From Goodreads:
They call her The Huntress. A vampire with lethal focus, Natalia hunts rogue werewolves and kills them without mercy. She buried her heart centuries ago. Now she lives only for revenge. But when she’s forced to team up with the alpha of the northwest werewolf pack to catch a werewolf serial killer, her carefully controlled world is shattered by the passionate Cristian.

Cristian can’t help be intrigued by the icy Natalia. He hasn’t been attracted to a female since his mate died decades ago. But now he vows to break that hard shell she wears and find the warm, nurturing woman inside.

Will Natalia accept Cristian’s claim on her heart even if it means sacrificing a part of who she is?

Alexia’s Review:
Oh my soul… I had such fun reading this book! Destiny Unchained is ‘un-put-downable’ – no jokes! I have been following this series very closely, and by closely I mean… book bullying the author J. This book has just the right amount of humour, adventure, action and sexy romance.

The alpha male in this book had my glasses steaming most of the time! Cristian is totally swoon worthy, like… “whose your daddy?” type – yes I just said that *giggles*. He is an alpha in every sense of the word, protective of his werewolf pack, watchful of nature and immensely protective of Natalia. He is dominant and proud and doesn’t take no for an answer – just what ‘the Ice Queen’ Natalia needs.

Natalia is a sexy bad ass to the bone. She wears leathers, knows how to use her knives and has a wicked kick ass attitude. Natalia has a lot of emotional baggage, which is totally understandable after everything she’s been through, because of all her emotional scarring, she builds this ‘wall’ around herself. She doesn’t let anyone come close and she doesn’t want to experience feelings for anyone or anything.

These two characters had me laughing at their bantering and *clears throat* wiping the steam off my glasses from their ‘romantic’ stunts. Cristian and Natalia go through an emotional transformation together and things just kept on getting interesting.

Leia Shaw you have once again out done yourself. I LOVED the epilogue… totally rocked my world upside down – did not expect that! Seriously epic ending! I can’t wait to get my hands on the fourth installment, Destiny Bewitched.

Ramblings of a Day-dreamer: Author Post & Giveaway!

Special surprise for you today peeps… this is my very first author post and giveaway – I know right, about damn time! *squee*

Introducing *drum roll please* … Terra Harmony, author of Water, The Akasha Series #1. I’m so excited and can’t wait for you guys to read further and get to know Terra – she is fabulous!

~~~~~~~~~
I am a professional day-dreamer.  Sometimes, my husband catches me in the middle of dinner staring off into space with a goofy smile on my face.  “What are you smiling about?”
Damn, I think.  Caught again.  “Nothing – how are those peas?”  I have been daydreaming as long as I can remember.  Not the quick, fleeting thought ‘I wish I were rich’ types of daydreams, but long, drawn-out action sequences or steamy, romantic adventures.  Eventually, I began writing these adventures down.  With some plotting and much editing, they morphed into my first novel, ‘Water’, a contemporary eco-fantasy.
‘Water’ has been in the works for a long time, much longer than I care to admit.  Ok – 10 years, at least, I admit it. Once it was complete, I sent it off to my mom, sister and grandma.  They said it was great – and so began the rounds of publisher and agent queries.  My rejection file quickly morphed into a rejection drawer.  I thought, “But my family loves it – therefore it has to be good.  These agents don’t know what they are talking about.”
Finally, I conceded.  50+ agents that are all saying the same thing probably know what they are talking about.  So I got serious.  I got coffee and then sent my book off for professional editing.  I got more coffee and joined a local critique group.  Then I got even more coffee, this time with a dash of scotch and…self-published.
It has so far been a whirlwind ride – and I know there is so much more to come.  The self-publishing community is great, my readers and what fans I have mustered so far have been very supportive and my mom, sister and grandma are…proud.
I still daydream; I do it when I am at work, when I am going for a run, and when I am doing laundry.  It is my version of multi-tasking.  Nowadays, my daydreams involve Kaitlyn and the crew of the Seven, an organization hell-bent on saving the planet.  With the power to control natural elements, anything goes.  I am currently working on the next book in the series, ‘Air’, to be released early 2012.  Kaitlyn will continue to (as Alexia puts it) ‘rock your face off’, only this time she will be in a slightly different condition.  Whoops – don’t want to give too much away!
I hope everyone thoroughly enjoys the book and here is hoping all of your daydreams come true!
~~~~~~~~~

Thanks Terra J A little bit more about Water…

From Goodreads:
All of the elemental powers are in the palm of her hand…and it won't be enough to save her. When Kaitlyn Alder is involuntarily introduced to a life of magic, she becomes part of an organization hell-bent on saving the Earth. Just as her new-found life holds promises of purpose, romance, and friendship, the organization divides and a rogue member holds Kaitlyn hostage. Now one of the most terrifying men the human race has to offer stands between her and Earth's survival.

The Scarlet Dagger by Krystle Jones

The Scarlet Dagger [The Red Sector Chronicles #1]
By Krystle Jones

From Goodreads:
The strength of Sloane’s heart is about to be put to the ultimate test.

After the Eclipse – the night vampires began openly slaughtering human victims – everything changed. Out of fear, the government salvaged what remained of the human population and enclosed them in massive, security-laden cities called White Sectors, while marking the vampire infested territory as Red Sectors.

When seventeen-year-old Sloane McAllister’s twin brother disappears, she seems to be the only one who thinks he isn’t dead, and vows to stop at nothing to find him. Gathering her courage, she braves the Red Sector to search for clues to his whereabouts. By chance, she encounters Aden, a handsome, charismatic vampire with a hidden agenda. He turns Sloane against her will, and whisks her away to his underground city. Enemies quickly become friends as Sloane struggles against her attraction to Aden, and resists her growing loyalties to the creatures that ruined her life. But the vampires themselves are the least of her problems. The city is harboring a devastating secret, one that could change the tide of the war and threaten to destroy everything Sloane has come to believe in.

Heart-stopping action and scorching romance collide in this dystopian, urban fantasy thriller.

Alexia’s Review:
What an EPIC book!! I just love a book that is action packed – I’m talking about sitting on the edge of your seat biting your nails type. The characters are freaking awesome and captivated my attention from the beginning.

Sloane… um… wow just wow!! She is a warrior through and through, whether it’s physical or emotional. She is tactful and strong willed – you need to watch your back if you ever get on her bad side. Having said how amazingly kick ass she is, she is also soft hearted and gullible – I love that about her, she’s got the whole package. She is thrown into a whole new ‘world’ and yet she rises to every occasion, kicking ass’ and taking names. She is a true heroine.

Now for the swoon worthy boy toy in the book – Aden! Firstly, can I have him?? Pretty please?! *bats eyelashes* Holy moly, cinnamon and cloves… he makes my blood boil *fans self*. Aden leaves you second guessing where his loyalty lies and yet when in doubt I still want to believe in him. He is very protective of Sloane and will do practically anything to care for her. *wipes drool from mouth* Ok I can carry on now…

This is a very well written book, that leaves you wanting for more! Very gripping storyline with twists and turns – you better hold onto your seat when reading this sucker, it’s a bumpy ride. J I can’t freaking wait to read the next installment of The Red Sector Chronicles. Krystle you get a standing ovation from me!!

Water #1 by Terra Harmony

Water [The Akasha Series #1]
By Terra Harmony

From Goodreads:
All of the elemental powers are in the palm of her hand…and it won't be enough to save her. When Kaitlyn Alder is involuntarily introduced to a life of magic, she becomes part of an organization hell-bent on saving the Earth. Just as her new-found life holds promises of purpose, romance, and friendship, the organization divides and a rogue member holds Kaitlyn hostage. Now one of the most terrifying men the human race has to offer stands between her and Earth's survival.

Alexia’s Review:
Where to begin… ok, this book is right up my alley! I enjoyed it so much that it kept me up till early hours of the morning – I could not put it down! I love the storyline and how Kaitlyn’s dreams are (in a way) connected to her everyday life and emotions. Terra Harmony is an amazing author!

Kaitlyn is such a kick-ass, sarcastic and witty chick. She rocks my face off! She has this amazing way about her – stands her ground and fights for what she believes in, even when the odds are against her. Her spirit is unbreakable – I admire her strong character.

Now on to the male characters of the book (of course I’m going to give you the 411 on the boys lol). There are 4 male characters that stand out, Alex, Micah, Shawn and Cato. Micah is just a hotness monster of note, the way he is described is drool worthy! At first I was so sure of their connection, but near the end I had my doubts – but it’s only the first book of the series, so we’ll see how things turn out. Shawn, boy oh boy – he is a head case. Some serious issues going on there and his little experiment with Kaitlyn just pissed me off, but that being said, there are deeper emotions at play and in a way I feel for the guy (but I’d still give him a good beating)! Alex – I lurve this dude, too cute for words. Cato is a weird old man, living in his own little world.

Now I have to comment on the cliff hanger ending… wtf?! I NEED to know what’s going to happen! J At the end of the book there is a little sneak preview of the second book in the series, Air – that just made me want to read the second book immediately! I can’t wait for the second installment. This is definitely a series and author I’ll be following closely!

Dark Lover #1 by J.R. Ward

Dark Lover [Black Dagger Brotherhood #1]
By J.R. Ward

Book order:
1.  Dark Lover
2.  Lover Eternal
3.  Lover Awakened
4.  Lover Revealed
5.  Lover Unbound
6.  Lover Enshrined
7.  Lover Avenged
8.  Lover Mine
9.  Lover Unleashed

From Goodreads:
In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood.

The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.

Alexia’s Review:
I’ve had this series on my TBR list forever but just never got around to getting the books, that being said, I can’t believe I have waited this long to start with the Black Dagger Brotherhood series *gasps* - I know right? Ridiculous!!

J.R Ward is a great writer with an amazing way of getting the whole story across to the reader. There isn’t just 2 main characters in this book, although it focuses on those 2 specific characters more than the rest, but you also get a whole background story on the other characters – the good guys and the bad guys.

Dark Lover is the story of Beth and Wrath. I absolutely adore Wrath and Beth and love how they get together, their journey of finding one another takes you on a wild adventure. In this book you discover a whole new world of vampires and lessers.

I felt as if my emotions were on a rollercoaster ride while reading this extraordinary book, there were times where I laughed so hard at some of the phrases used by the brothers in the Brotherhood and times where I had a lump in my throat. Dark Lover has a delicious mix of humour, romance (and when I say romance – I mean ro-freaking-mance), sorrow and a lot of action (action as in ‘up in your face explosive’).

The brothers in the Brotherhood are … hmmm… HAWT! (yeah, you know me, always have to comment on the alpha males *giggles*) Oh my goodness – they can kidnap me anytime they want.

This weeks Follow Friday question?
If you could have dinner with your favorite book character, who would you eat with and what would you serve?

Alexia’s Answer:
Hmm… I have so many fav book characters! Ok, I’ll have to go with Malkom Slaine. He is a demon / vampire that just screams danger – totally wild! He has a balanced diet of human food and blood, so I’ll make some Mac & Cheese (basically the only thing I can make – sad right?) and serve my wrist as dessert.
Just look at this cover – that body! *wipes drool*

Bound by Blood by P.A. Lupton

Bound by Blood [The Garner Witch #1]
By P.A. Lupton

From Goodreads:
FBI agent and psychic, Brianna Reece, descends from an ancient and powerful bloodline of witches, only she doesn’t know it. But now that legacy has come back to bite her—literally. In the shadows of night in Denver Colorado, a serial killer is hunting women, and FBI agent Brianna Reece is hunting the killer. Unlike any case she’s worked before, Brianna can’t ignore the prickling at the back of her neck when she glimpses the resemblance she shares with the victims. The investigation begins to touch even closer to home when it is revealed that all of the victims were also psychic.

Complicating matters further, Brianna is captivated by the FBI’s prime suspect Nathan Donovan. Though she senses he is hiding something from her, the attraction she feels for him is compelling, and unlike anything she’s ever experienced. Through a chance twist of fate, Nathan learns of Brianna’s ancestry and is forced to divulge secrets to Brianna that will change her life forever. When she learns that the killer is an evil vampire, and he’s now set his sights on her, Nathan alone holds the key to awakening her dormant powers. Now he must race to teach her how to control her emergent gifts before she becomes the next victim.

Alexia’s Review:
I freaking love this book!! The author, Penny-Ann Lupton got me hooked on the first page till the very end. I couldn’t put it down – I was even sneakily reading at work when I had a chance (don’t blame me if I get fired, not my fault)! You know it’s a great read when you start getting anxious when you realize there are only a few pages left – I started reading slower in hopes that I could read longer *sighs*.

The characters are fabulous. Brianna (love that name) is a powerful woman with a hunger for life. The way she handles herself in dangerous situations is absolutely amazing. I enjoyed how Brianna and Todd Morrison became such good friends.

Mr Nathan Donovan… *fans myself* … oh my… That man is a hotness monster of note!! When I think of Nathan I can’t even put words into sentences – seriously! I’m super glad that Nathan and Brianna got together and that they have so much chemistry (I’ll be honest – I’ll say I’m glad but really I’m actually jealous).

Penny-Ann Lupton is definitely an author I’ll be following from now on – no questions asked! I enjoyed her writing style – this book had super hot (melt your bones) romance, humour and cool action scenes. This book is a definite MUST read to all that love paranormal romance. I can’t wait for the next installment of The Garner Witch series!!

Her Dark Destiny #1 By Dave Ferraro

Her Dark Destiny [Hunters of the Dark #1]
By Dave Ferraro

From Goodreads:
Teenager Shanna Hunt has been hunting demons since her parents were murdered by them. She's used to doing things alone, her own way, but one fateful night throws her into the company of a team of hunters, each specializing in a particular kind of monster: vampires, werewolves, witches, shape-shifters... This newly-formed team should be an unstoppable force for whatever is out there picking off individual hunters across the globe, but their first battle together against the monsters of the night could be their last.

Alexia’s Review:
I really enjoyed reading this book. The story line is great – I was captivated from the get go! I love all the kick-ass chicks. Every single one of the characters has such outrages personalities – freaking awesome. They are unpredictable and keep you on your toes.

This is the type of book that ‘does’ it for me – it is action packed (and yes… the girls did most of the ‘in your face’ knock outs) and has romance as well as humour!

I just have to add that I’m totally swooning over Damien *sigh* although I don’t know much about him but I am anxious to see how his role plays out in Shanna’s life.

I enjoyed Dave Ferraro’s writing style, that being said, Hunters of the Dark is definitely a series I’ll be following! Also have to add… What is up with the sneak peek of the second book in the Hunters of the Dark Series, Night Cries – seriously?! Cliff hanger of note if you ask me… I NEED to know what is about to go down *pouts*. All in all… it was a great read and I look forward to the rest of the series.

This weeks Follow Friday question?
What is your superhero alter-ego?

I have to go with… Elektra! She is a kick-ass chick that dances circles around the bad guys. Her outfits are freaking awesome – yes I know, that is a typical girly thing to say :)
