Interview: Natalie Hancock

Today we have Natalie Hancock on the blog for an interview. Natalie is a young author that has written 3 books already - Eternal Darkness, Dark Shadows & Dark Awakening (Cursed in Darkness Series). She is an inspiration to all young authors out there :) She will be discussing her novels, how they came about, her characters and the genre. So without further ado, lets get to the interview...

Describe your books? What genre would you classify it into?
Erotic Vampire Paranormal Romance

How do you come up with the idea for the books?
Hmm... I’ve read a lot of vampire paranormal romance books, and I guess I got the idea for a vampire book from those. Although I didn’t start writing the books until I started dreaming about them.

When and why did you begin writing?
I was bullied badly in school and I guess it was my way to jump out of the world I didn’t want to be in and jump into the world I wished this world was.

Who is your favourite character from your books? Is there a character in your books you think the readers will hate?
Well, I like my main character, obviously, but if I chose someone other than her, I would pick Nikalye. He’s my Spanish vampire and has rare abilities no other vampires have. Plus, he’s hot :P

A character the readers will hate? Now that’s a hard one. You can’t exactly hate the characters in my books, only be annoyed with them. If anyone reads my third release, Dark Awakening, I know who they will hate for definite... Me xD This book is the book where the culprit is revealed and I think everyone will hate me for how I’ve ended it. I can’t say why, however, that’s spoiling it ;)

What were the challenges (research, literary, psychological, and logistical) in bringing it to life?
I researched the Book of the Dead, which plays a part in how my vampires are created, but other than that, for the first five books anyway, no research was needed.

Who designed the awesome covers of your books?
Martine Jardin designed my awesomely hot covers :P

What are your current projects?  When is your next book coming out?
My current projects at the minute are two Erotic Vampire Paranormal Romance books called Pleasures of the Soul and Bound by Pleasure.
I have a book out today! Dark Awakening, Cursed in Darkness Book Three.

What book are you reading now? Which are your all-time favourite authors / books?
I’m in full writing mode at the minute, so reading what I write.
My al time favourite authors are Storm Savage’s Night Angel series and Christopher Pike’s The Last Vampire series. OH! And Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy, Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampire series, PC and Kristin Cast’s House of Night series, Lili ST Crow’s Strange Angels series, Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series and spin-offs, Jacquelyn Frank’s Nightwalker series and more!
As you can most probably gather, I love all my books xD

Give us three “Good to Know” facts about you.
  1. I’m in love <3
  2. My chinchilla, hamster and three guinea pigs are my babies.
  3. I’m spoilt xD
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to readers?
You’re all AWESOME!

Why do you write romance/erotica?
I’m a sucker for romance. All of my books are romance books, mainly about vampires. Whether it is erotica or not. I find I prefer erotic romance books more because you get a thorough look at the love the couple, threesome, foursome, fivesome (whichever floats your boat) share with each other/others.
I write erotic romance because of that reason. It’s one thing to write about the romance between the characters, how they look at each other, how they smell, how they act, but it’s another thing to write about the emotions they feel when they are intimate together.

What is the best part of writing romance/erotic novels, and the worst?
The best part of writing erotic romance books is the romance, obviously :P I love writing about the troubles couples have, and how they deal with it because of the love they share.
Worst? Hmm... Making something bad happen to the couple. I would just love to write a full romance book with nothing bad happening, but it’s the bad and how the couples react to that, that makes a good romance book.
Not to mention he sex ;)

How difficult is it to write erotica? Is there a stigma associated with writing erotica, and if so, how do you deal with it?
I don’t find it difficult to write erotica. I just look at the life I have with my partner, and my characters tune into that and just tell the story themselves.

What have been the best and worst reactions you’ve had from readers of your books?
Best reaction? The fact that they’ve loved the book and they tell me why and who they’re favourite character is.
Worst? I haven’t had a bad reaction at all.

Quick-fire questions:

ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover?
All three? I write e-books but own all three xD

Cats or dogs?
Neither?
Chinchilla’s?

Coffee or tea?
TEA!

Vanilla or chocolate ice-cream?
Vanilla ice-cream. As a lover of chocolate, it’s a bit weird that I don’t like chocolate ice-cream.

What are 4 things you never leave home without?
  • Reece
  • Laptop
  • Phone
  • Clothes? xD

If you were deserted on an island, who are 3 famous people you would want with you and why?
JIMMY THOMAS!!!!!! Do I really need a reason? ;)
Do I have to have two more here with us? :P
Um... J.K.Rowling, because she is so inspirational. I love her. Stalker much? Nahh :P
And lastly, the band at Six because they’re my favourite :P

What is a movie or TV show that you watched recently and really enjoyed?
There are two: The Vampire Diaries, because that TV series is AWESOME! And I love Damon!
Once Upon a Time, it’s also an awesome TV series. For a fairy tail TV series, it’s quite scary sometimes :P

Danger lurks in the shadows, waiting. Can Layla catch the killer before the next victim is chosen? Or will the killer catch her first?

In the hundred acres of land, more security and more people are watching Layla’s back now that everyone knows who she is. Layla wants to find the person responsible for the attacks made at her, just like everyone else, but when an attack happens to someone other than her, she and Nikalye are the only ones who know the truth. They are determined to find the culprit once and for all, before someone else is seriously injured.

Terrific interview, Natalie!! You rock!! I wish you all the best with your books and I have a sneaking suspicion you will be quite famous someday.
So glad I'll be able to sigh and say, "Alas, I knew her back when she was but a wee cheeky monkey!" (Yeah, and I will say it like a Leprechaun!) Hehehe! ;-)
